Choosing your counsellor can be a difficult decision. Take your time. You need someone you feel comfortable with. Someone you can learn to trust. A good client counsellor relationship is one of the keys to successful therapy.
About me and my practice
I work with individual adults, over 18 years of age. My modality (way of working) is called the person centred approach. I am a pure person centred practitioner.
You may not know what brings you to counselling and that is fine. I have a broad range of experience and knowledge and a broad mind. Whatever comes up for you I am confident we can handle it.
I offer a free 20 minute appointment so you can ask any questions before committing to working with me.
It can take some time to become comfortable with the counselling relationship and I recommend that you consider committing to at least 6 sessions on a weekly basis.
I have observed clients using counselling in 2 ways:
1. to explore and strengthen their coping strategies
2. to explore the experiences that their coping strategies help them to cope with.
My job is to be with you while you do whatever exploration you want to do, we work with what you bring.
I have more about how I work and the person centred approach on my website.
Experience
2019 to present
Working in private practice with a wide range of clients. I work online and face to face from my home office.
In 2021 I qualified as a clinical supervisor. In that capacity I support other counsellors to maintain an ethical practice and their own well being.
My placements (Client work whilst in training)
3 months at Turning Point an addiction support charity. I liked my work here unfortunately their contract with the local council came to an end
18 months at Nelson Trust a residential rehabilitation unit for drug and alcohol addiction. This was an amazing place to work. I learned so much from my clients I am forever grateful.
9 months at Gloucester Womens Centre. I moved from Nelson Trust to their sister organisation which supported women on parole or at risk of going to prison also women with a social care order. Again an amazing place to work.
Sept 2016 - July 2018 During this time I also had a placement with Place2be working in a school with primary aged children.
After I qualified I continued to volunteer with the agencies until 2019 when I started my private practice.
Qualifications
My main counselling qualifications are:
Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (CPCAB)
Level 3 General Certificate in Online Counselling (CPCAB)
Level 6 Diploma in Online Supervision, Distinction (OLT)
Certificate in Emotional Eating, Chronic Dieting, Bingeing and Body Image: Attuned eating.
I am a HAES practitioner

I work in a trauma informed way. This means that I recognise that anything could be a trigger and I work to minimise these experiences whilst maximising client autonomy and agency. (you are in charge at all times).
I have many other brief trainings ranging from a few hours to a few days. I regularly engage in new trainings, health and safety reviews, ethical reviews, latest data laws.
